Red Balloon 2009 is a benefit concert that sponsors the UC Davis Childrens hospital and the got your back Network.
I had anticipated my Saturday evening to consist of reviewing lecture notes and catching up on some tv shows. I was at the library when Darwin shows up buzzed and probably high (he's the biggest pothead I know) and asks if I wanted to go to a free concert/show on campus which was headlined by Gabe Bondoc! It was a tough decision. Do I continue to study? Or do I go to a free concert and get the chance to listen to some potentially good artists? After minutes of debating, I chose the latter. I'm glad I did.
We bike on over to the science and lecture hall and we see a suggested donation of $7. I give them all I had - $2. I walk into the hall and its like all the cute asian girls in Davis decided to show up to watch the show
It was a really great concert for a great cause. After being more informed on what they were trying to accomplish, I felt so shitty for only donating $2. Here's a promotional video for the event:
To open up the show were these 3 girls from UC Davis. They performed covers, medleys, and spoken words. The tall asian chick on the guitar was super hot. I was really hoping she would see me in the crowd and just like perform to me like how Torrance had cheer sex w/ Cliff in bring it on lol. The girl who beatboxed was really sick too. Here's a video someone took at the performance:
The next group performing was Thoma's apartment. They're pretty popular on youtube. I felt bad cause they were like rocking out and the audience were just like chilling there. Maybe it had something to do w/ their speakers going in and out? I dunno. I thought they were dope.
After Thoma's Apartment was Tyler Weinrich. I was really surprised at how good he was and how much he resembled Ryan Reynolds. He's very Jason Mraz-ish. I really liked his song "don't go too far" (if you click the link, you can hear the song)
Next was songbird. The lead singer was super hot. She kept saying she was hungry in between songs. I yelled out I would take her out to dinner. She respectfully declined. I think she would've taken me up on my offer if she didn't have to drive back to socal. Or at least I would like to think that lol.
Finally there was headliner, Gabe Bondoc. I remember watching his videos on Youtube back in high school. I've subscribed to him since. Man, he is crazy on the guitar. Plus he has great hair. I wish had cool hair like him lol. After the show, I got to meet and take pictures w/ most of them. They were all really great people.

I was so inspired to play guitar after watching the show so I biked home and got my guitar and headed straight to Darwins to learn. Learning the guitar is so frustrating. Its very...tedious. But it is the best feeling when you get a series of notes down and you somewhat resemble the actual song you're playing. I think I'll stick with it. It'll give me something to do in this town. After about 3 hours of jamming, I can now play the first 5, maybe 7 seconds of Daphne Loves Derby's Simple starving to be safe and the first 10 seconds of more than words. Soon, it will hopefully be the entire song. It was a good Saturday.
