Morgan Stanley

Today was my first day interning for the morgan stanley financial program. Through this internship you learn about stocks, options, mutual funds, and all that other wall street stuff. My whole family buys/sells/trade stocks and makes a crap load of money doing so; which was the main reason I even considered applying to this. I walked into the building to this screen with all these numbers and figures that I couldn't even fathom. I realized that, in here, I'm a fish out of water. I was completely out of place. Jeffrey Won walks into the room. He's the senior vice president of morgan stanley and a global wealth advisor. He was going over the tentative schedule for the quarter and cancelled one meeting because he had to fly some clients to new york to take them out to dinner! FLY THEM OUT TO HAVE DINNER. So basically, he's the shit.

To break the ice everyone gave a quick introduction about themselves. One after the other, everyone kept stating that they were managerial economic majors. I'm thinking to myself what the hell am i doing here?! I'm a freaking comm/psych major, let alone the ONLY one with that major. Plus my interview wasn't so hot. If the other people in my group interview saw that I got this internship and they didnt, they'd be pissed. Its one of the more sought after internships out here and I was fortunate enough to get it.

The learning curve seems pretty steep for non econ people. I did, however, feel really grown up. It felt like I was going to work at a real job. I'm really nervous but excited at the same time for this program. It could be very beneficial and a great thing to put on your resume. Who knows? If my dream of being in the NBA doesn't pan out, maybe i'll take an interest in finance and pursue that...
